Take it away, press release:
“Paramount+ today announced that the all-new original film APARTMENT 7A, a psychological thriller starring Golden Globe winner Julia Garner (Ozark) and directed by Natalie Erika James (Relic), will premiere this fall exclusively on Paramount+ in the US and in select international markets. Set in 1965 New York City, the film tells the story prior to the legendary horror classicย Rosemaryโs Baby, exploring what happened in the apartment before Rosemary moved in.
When a struggling, young dancer (Garner) suffers a devastating injury, she finds herself drawn in by dark forces when a peculiar, well-connected, older couple promises her a shot at fame.
The film also stars two-timeย Academy Award winner Dianne Wiest (MAYOR OF KINGSTOWN), Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe) and Kevin McNally (Pirates of the Caribbeanย film series). Additional supporting cast includes Marli Siu (Everything I Know About Love), Andrew Buchanย (All the Money in the World), Rosy McEwen (Blue Jean) and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (Wonka). “
We did not expect a Rosemary’s Baby prequel any time soon, but we’re admittedly intrigued by the premise here, and it doesn’t hurt that Apartment 7A will be working with such an excellent cast!ย Says Jeff Grossman, Paramount+’s Executive Vice President of Programming:
โAPARTMENT 7A is the perfect way to kick off the Halloween season. Director Natalie Erika James and the prodigious creative team have crafted a chilling and clever new entry into the genre.โ
The original Rosemary’s Baby is an all-time classic, one worth seeking out if you’ve never gotten around to it. Featuring an incredible central performance from Mia Farrow and one of the most chilling final scenes in movie history, it isn’t the sort of film that cries out for a sequel or a prequel, but again: let’s see what they do with it!
Nothing further to report on Apartment 7A at this time, but rest assured we’ll be keeping you informed as further updates roll in. Stay tuned, folks!
