We still know very little about Universal’s next Jurassic Park movie. We know it’ll be directed by Gareth Edwards, whose incomparable talent for capturing things at an awe-inspiring scale onscreen will certainly serve him well. We know that the film is written by David Koepp, who wrote the original Jurassic Park screenplay and a number of other great scripts. And, finally, we know who won’t be appearing in it: Bryce Dallas Howard, Chris Pratt, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and/or Sam Neill.
Beyond that, though? We don’t know much! We’re not even sure what the damn thing’s gonna be called. One rumor that’s made the rounds says it might be Jurassic City, but that seems like an odd choice. You go from Park to World, going back to City feels like something of a geographical downgrade, no? Then again, Jurassic Universe just sounds ridiculous. Eh, I’ll let them worry about it!
Anyway, here’s the news: according to Deadline Hollywood, Scarlett Johansson is currently in talks to star in Edwards’ film. Deadline notes that while nothing’s been signed, the deal’s looking solid, which means her contract is probably being reviewed even as we speak.ย Who will she be playing? What will she be doing? Again, we have no idea. But knowing that Scarlett Johansson is (likely) going to be in the next Jurassic movie is one more thing than we knew about this movie when we woke up this morning, so … congrats to Scarlett Johansson!
Nothing further to report at this time, but we imagine that’ll change sooner rather than later: if casting’s already coming together (and if Universal really wants to hit that July 2nd, 2025 release date they already announced), chances are we’ll be hearing more in the way of details about Edwards’ latest in short order. Stay tuned for those, Jurassic franchise fanatics.
