Previously scheduled for a March 31st release, Ghostface (?) has presumably taken over the Paramount Pictures and Scream Twitter accounts to announce, “I’ve updated my plans for you. The new #ScreamMovie is now coming to theatres March 10, 2023.” That’s a whole three weeks earlier than we originally anticipated!

With cast announcements and new additions trickling in over the last several months, we are nearing a Knives Out-level ensemble. Along with the surviving members from this year’s Scream, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, and Jenna Ortega returning, we are also getting Hayden Panettiere‘s fan-favorite Kirby returning from Scream 4 alongside franchise mainstay Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers. New cast members are also in abundance, including Dermot Mulroney, Jack Champion, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda, Josh Segarra, and Henry Czerny reuniting with Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett after Ready or Not.
We know the storyline this time around takes place outside of Woodsboro as our survivors “leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.” That new chapter will occur in New York City, allowing Ghostface to take Manhattan (or at least try their darndest.) Last word was that fan-fave Neve Campbell sadly will not return as Sidney Prescott. It seems negotiations did not work out, and to say I was gutted at the news is putting it lightly. Scream without Sid will be more than just a new chapter — it’s a whole new world. Hopefully, Sid gets to peacefully retire from Ghostface hunting… but if Campbell makes a surprise appearance after all, fans are gonna blow the roof off of the damn theater.
Radio Silence, the filmmaking team behind the previous installment, returns with James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick penning the screenplay and franchise co-creator Kevin Williamson producing. Williamson wrote the screenplay for the original ’90s horror classic, which the late great Wes Craven directed.
Scream hits theaters March 10, 2023.
