Ask horror fans of a certain age, and they’ll either tell you that Manny Coto’s Dr. Giggles is one of the worst slashers of that decade … or a full-on, criminally-undervalued trash masterpiece.

The story of an insane doctor (Larry Drake, who you’ll certainly remember from Sam Raimi’s Darkman) terrorizing the small town that stoned his father to death years prior, the film features utterly ludicrous kills, gallons of blood, and the sort of aesthetic that immediately lets you know you’re watching a movie made in 1992.

All of which is to say, I’m one of those people who loves Dr. Giggles, which means I am extremely excited to relay the following news to you: according to an announcement made by the company earlier today, Shout Factory is bringing Dr. Giggles to Blu-ray on March 21st. You should go pre-order it right now if you know what’s good for you.

Here’s an official synopsis, via Shout Factory’s website:

“No need for an appointment. Forget about your co-pay. Healthcare won’t save you … from Dr. Giggles. Larry Drake (Darkman) plays the night-prowling surgical psychopath who wreaks havoc on the residents of a once-peaceful town. From an old haunted house to a midway funhouse, from unwanted house calls to the operating table, the doctor is in … sane!”

There’s no word on what sort of extras we can expect on this disc (on that front, Shout Factory says “Extras in progress and will be announced at a later date”), but given the company’s previous releases, it’s probably not crazy to think that they’ll end up being some fun stuff included with this one. Stay tuned for more on Shout Factory’s Blu-ray release of Dr. Giggles as further updates become available!
