It’s June, halfway through the year, and there are 14 new horror movies streaming on SCREAMBOX, as well as some scary television series. Let’s dig in, shall we? Screambox has the streaming premiere of Frogman, the found-footage screamer about, well, a frogman. Frogs are slimy, and cryptids are much bigger than your average frog, but there’s more to the film than that.

  • Broadcast Signal Intrusion (2021) on June 7

    Broadcast Signal Intrusion was directed by Jacob Gentry, who was one of the directors of the anthology horror film The Signal,ย which premiered at the South By Southwest Film Festival.ย 

    It explores Broadcast Signal Intrusions, the most famous of which are probably the Max Headroom incidents in Chicago when a person in a creepy Max Headroom mask hijacked broadcasts on two local stations. Gentry also said that creepypasta and the paranoid thrillers of the 1970s, like The Parallax View,ย influenced the film.

    Harry Shum Jr. (Crazy Rich Asians), Chris Sullivan (This Is Us), Kelley Mack, Steve Pringle star in the film about a man whose wife has disappeared and who investigates the phenomena in hopes of finding her.

    Screambox has the exclusive streaming debut ofย Frogman,ย a found-footage film about a new cryptid. Is the cryptid a giant frog man? Yes. Is this a great addition to the cryptid subgenre, and should cryptid fans be stoked? Absolutely. An amphibious cryptid? It's new territory, which is good. Hop to it!

    In the film, three friends who are in search of the Loveland Frogman discover that he is more than just a local legend. Directed by Anthony Cousins, it stars Nathan Tymoshuk, Benny Barrett, Ali Daniels, and Chelsey Grant.

  • The Finale (2023) on June 7

    Slasher killers love to go to camp, but what about theatre camp? The Finale has a creepy acting teacher who arrives around the time a killer starts killing off the Broadway hopefuls. Will they be killed during dance numbers or while singing? You will have to watch to find out.

    Directed by Christie Vela, The Finale stars Gabrielle Reyes, Madison Calhoun, and Kenneisha Thompson.

  • Coherence (2013) on June 14

    This cult science fiction horror film has the potential to really mess with your brain. The surreal quality of the terror inย Coherence,ย a film about a group of friends who choose to have dinner on the night a comet flies by Earth, challenges the concept of reality itself.

    A sequel has been announced for this film, directed by James Ward Byrkit and starring Hugo Armstrong, Nicholas Brendon, Emily Foxler, Elizabeth Gracen, and Lauren Maher. What is real in quantum decoherence? Good question. What is reality itself? When you start questioning reality, you go to the outer edge of terror.

  • Haunters: The Art of the Scare (2017) on June 14

    Haunters: The Art of the Scareย is a documentary about those people who like to scare people, "haunters," and who are obsessed with building intricate haunted houses for the love of the scare and sometimes for profit. There are amateur and professional "haunters" who are profiled in the documentary.

    The film also discusses the rise of extreme immersive horror experiences like McKamey Manor and Blackout. Through interviews with haunters like Shar Mayer, horror producers, and actors like Jason Blum and Jessica Cameron, director Jon Schnitzer explores what makes haunters tick and examines why people love haunted houses.

  • The Last Laugh (2020) on June 14

    The Last Laugh is about a stand-up comedian on the verge of breakout success who must make a terrible choice when he discovers a murderer on the loose in the theater where he's about to perform his biggest show.

    Stand-up comedy is deadly, and does the killer get The Last Laugh? Only time will tell. Written and directed by Jeremy Berg, it stars Steve Vanderzee, Eric Stone, and Lowell Deo.

  • The Love Witch (2016) on June 14

    This sumptuous horror film about a beautiful witch in search of love is set in the present day but is in the style of 60s horror films, with colorful costumes, makeup, and set design. Written and directed by Anna Biller, it stars the gorgeous Samantha Robinson, Gian Keys, Laura Waddell, and Jeffrey Vincent Parise.

    Biller also created the costumes and sought to create a femme fatale who loves the men she seduces with magic to death.

  • The Ward (2010) on June 14

    John Carpenter's latest film, The Ward,ย comes to Screambox this month and stars Amber Heard (Aquaman), Mamie Gummer (The Good Wife), Danielle Panabaker (Friday the 13th), Jared Harris (Mad Men), and Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria).

    It is a period film set in 1966, about a woman who is sent to an institution after burning down a house. While incarcerated, she is haunted by the ghost of a former resident of the ward and desperately tries to survive.

  • Bedlamย  (2011-2013) Season One on June 21

    The first season ofย Bedlam,ย a British television series set in an upscale block of flats built on the former site of a mental institution called Bedlam Heights, stars Theo James as Jed Jed Harper (Divergent) as a man who can see ghosts and has visions, Charlotte Salt, Hugo Speer, Will Young, and Ashley Madekwe.

    The asylum was shut down because of the mistreatment of the patients, and the owner of Bedlam Heights comes from the family who owned the institution. Scary supernatural events begin to happen as the residents start to suspect that the property's past has come to haunt the new residents.

    Encounters is a paranormal investigation show from Great Britain that uses the latest cutting-edge technology in the paranormal field. Seasoned investigator and Haunted Plymouth team member Jason Higgs experiences and investigates alleged haunted locations and Satanic happenings around the country alone.

  • We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011) on June 21

    Nothing supernatural happens in director Lynne Ramsay's (You Were Never Really Here) film We Need to Talk About Kevin,ย but it is one of the scariest films out there because it is so plausible and so realistic.

    The grim psychological thriller stars Tilda Swinton (Doctor Strange) and John C. Reilly (Kong: Skull Island) and tells the story of a woman who has a son, Kevin, who seemingly has no conscience or empathy for other living beings. The mother, Eva Khatchadourian, sees something wrong with her son and tries to warn people, but no one believes her until tragedy strikes.

  • 96 Minutes (2012) on June 28

    96 Minutes was directed by Aimee Lagos and stars Brittany Snow, Evan Ross, J. Michael Trautmann, David Oyelowo, and Christian Serratos.

    This intense real-time thriller is the story of four lives slammed together in a shocking moment. Intercutting between a carjacking and the separate stories of the four kids in Atlanta, the viewer watches as they hurtle toward a life-changing ending.

  • Bedlam (2011-2013) Season 2 on June 28

    The second season of Bedlamย has a new cast, including Lacey Turner, as Ellie, a paramedic suspended from her job who starts seeing ghosts. She goes to the block of flats that has now been renamed Brightmoor to try to find Jed Harper to get help with her newly acquired powers.

    Gemma Chan (The Eternals), Jack Roth (Till Death), and Nikesh Patel (The Devil's Hour) also star in the show, which has ghost possessions, frightening visions, and hidden tunnels filled with shadowy secrets.

  • Paranormal Quest (2021) on June 28

    In this real-life frightful series, Ryan Zacherl, David Gear, Steve Hummel, and Jason McKinney set out on a quest to seek out paranormal activity at reportedly haunted locations across the country.

    The three paranormal investigators have taken on such locations as St. Joseph Hospital, The Anchorage Mansion, The LaFayette Hotel, and the Octagon Mansion.
