Yesterday, Sony dropped the very first teaser trailer for Scott Beck and Bryan Woods’ 65, which – at the time – seemed to be a movie about a future astronaut crash-landing on an alien planet, only to find himself fighting for survival against a number of alien creatures. Turns out, 65 had a fairly major trick up its sleeve: Beck and Woods’ latest doesn’t take place on an alien planet, but on Earth itself … 65 million years ago.

That’s right: it’s Adam Driver versus dinosaurs.

Here’s an official plot synopsis, for your records:

โ€œAfter a catastrophic crash on an unknown planet, pilot Mills (Adam Driver) quickly discovers heโ€™s actually stranded on Earthโ€ฆ65 million years ago. Now, with only one chance at rescue, Mills and the only other survivor, Koa (Ariana Greenblatt), must make their way across an unknown terrain riddled with dangerous prehistoric creatures in an epic fight to survive.โ€

Gotta admit, we’re impressed that Sony/Columbia were able to keep a lid on this movie’s actual setting/logline until now. Usually, things like that get spoiled during the announcement phase; it’s rare to see a would-be studio blockbuster maintain a secret like that all the way up until the first trailer release. Could they have played it coy all the way until release? Eh, maybe, but if you wanna guarantee butts in seats, you probably want the “Adam Driver versus dinosaurs” thing out in the open before it hits theaters.

As for the trailer itself? We’re into it! Looks fun and slick (those sci-fi weapons Driver brandishes in this trailer are particularly cool), and we’re we’re also hyped to learn that Sam Raimi is producing this bad boy – that’s precisely the kinda guy you want to have involved in a movie like this! Also onboard to produce: Debbie Liebling and Zainab Azizi.

Here’s the film’s first poster, should such a thing please you:

Incidentally, 65 will hit theaters on March 10th of next year, which means Beck and Woods’ latest is going up against Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett’s Scream VI. Sounds like we’ve got a helluva double-feature to look forward to in a few months!

Nothing further to report on 65 at this time, but rest assured that we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for further updates as they roll in. Stay tuned for those, folks, and get ready for a wild-ass weekend at the movies come March!
