Horror gamers feasted at last night’s PlayStation State of Play showcase, with the announcement of Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, a new trailer for Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake, the reveal of Judas, the new game from Bioshock‘s Ken Levine and Konami’s surprise announcement of a new entry into the Silent Hill franchise now available for PlayStation 5 gamers – for free!
The long-rumored Silent Hill: The Short Message (which fans previously believed to be known as Project Sakura) has been the subject of whispers and leaked concept art for over two years now. The reveal confirmed that The Short Message is, as the name suggests, a short spin-off game set in modern-day Germany and following a young girl called Anita.
While talking to PlayStation blog, producer Motoi Okamoto shared his excitement:
“Weโre releasing the whole game for free, so if youโve never played a Silent Hill game before, we hope youโll take this chance to get a taste of what Silent Hill is all about […] This game started as something like an experimental project โ an opportunity for us to try out different things, see what worked and what didnโt, and grow and polish our horror game expertise. We also had a lot of people who were relatively new in their career but still loved Silent Hill, and who really wanted to be involved in making a horror game, so we used this as a way for our team to build hands-on experience, too.”
What’s even more exciting about The Short Message is Silent Hill concept and creature designer Masahiro Ito confirming that the creature design (which looks to be refreshingly different from previous Silent Hill beasties) is his own work.
PS5 gamers can tackle the eerie world of The Short Messageright now – for those without, here’s a teaser trailer and some stills to tide you over!
