Today we’ve got the Smile 2 trailer, as well as a poster and an image, and all signs point to writer director Parker Finn taking the surprise success of his 2022 feature debut and going bigger, bolder and wilder with the sequel.
But don’t take my word for it; have a look right here!
Finn has set his sequel in the world of pop stardom which, anecdotally speaking, is an easy reality to sell to a certain, uh, advanced age group. Skye Riley (played by Naomi Scott) could be a real pop singer for all I know. I have no idea. Well done, Smile 2!
And it’s early days, but the world of a pop singer, in which the protagonist is someone who’s greeted all day by creepy smiles both genuine and fake from all sides, makes for a compelling tableau in which to set these paranoid hijinks.
Shame about Lukas Gage, though! We like that kid.
Smile 2 opens in theaters October 18, 2024. In the meantime, follow @SKYERILEYNATION for tour info (wink).
