According to a new report over at The Hollywood Reporter, Sophie Thatcher (noted MVP of Yellowjackets S1, star of the recently-released Stephen King adaptation The Boogeyman) has signed on to play the lead in Companion, a sci-fi thriller headed our way from the team behind last year’s smash hit, Barbarian.
Thatcher joins the already-cast Jack Quaid, Lukas Gage, Megan Suri and Harvey Guillรฉn, and while THR’s report reveals nothing new about this highly secretive film’s narrative, it does mention that Thatcher will be playing the “titular” role (aka the Companion), and that there’s “more than meets the eye” with this particular character. Curiouser and curiouser!
Companion was written by Drew Hancock, who’ll also be making his directorial debut on the feature. Producers include Barbarian writer/director Zack Cregger, Raphael Margules and J.D. Lifshitz of BoulderLight Pictures, and the esteemed Roy Lee of Vertigo. Cregger was originally onboard to direct this one, but switched to a producer role on the project after a bidding war over his Barbarian follow-up script, Weapons, was snatched up in a fierce bidding war. Long story short? Whatever Companion turns out to be, we’re guessing it’s gonna have something very interesting going on under the hood.
Nothing further to report on Companion at this time, but we are of course keeping our ear to the ground for more, and will have further updates for you just as soon as they become available. Stay tuned, folks!
