  • Black Christmas (1974)

Bob Clark's Christmas time shocker is one of the classics of the sorority horror sub-genre and horror itself. It has a great cast, including Olivia Hussey, Keir Dullea, Margot Kidder, and John Saxon. The film combines real-life issues that young women have, like unplanned pregnancies, drinking to excess, obscene phone calls, and dealing with angry boyfriends. Those everyday problems did a lot to ground the horror in the film and get you to identify with the characters. They seem all too real.

  • Suicide Bid - V/H/S/99 (2022)

So many films in this sub-genre have similar names and subjects or are remakes of the same movies, but here's one that is a little different. Writer and director Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey At Night) created the second segment in V/H/S/99. It's about a college co-ed who desperately wants to join Beta Sigma Eta, the best sorority on campus, so much so that she will do anything. She turns down all other opportunities and accepts the hazing, which is being buried alive in a cemetery. This horror story is for you if you have claustrophobia or fear premature burial. • Killer Party (1986)

Killer Party is a lesser-known Canadian sorority horror movie. It's a slasher! It's supernatural! It's a supernatural slasher! Three female college students want to pledge to a popular sorority during Hell Week. After being accepted, the sorority throws an April Fool's Party at the creepy old local mansion. This is a mistake, and they find out, to their horror, that one of their number has become possessed and is killing off the sorority members and their guests. Yes, it's one of the rare sorority horror movies about demonic possession.

  • Initiation (2020)

Speaking of a different kind of horror film about sororities, Initiation is one of them. When a young woman is found in a room unconscious with three frat boys and then mocked on social media, Ellery is asked to investigate what is happening. Her brother Wes was one of the ones found in the room with the sorority member Kylie. It seems that the local police have been covering for the fraternity members who are challenged to commit sexual assault as part of their hazing ritual. When the fraternity members start being murdered, it's clear that someone is getting revenge. Read more: Lionsgate Sets The Crow Reboot For 2024 Starring Bill Skarsgรฅrd.

  • Happy Death Day (2017)

In this clever, dark comedy slasher, Theresa "Tree" Gelbman (Jessica Rothe) dies over and over again on her birthday, each day waking up in a fellow student's, Carter Davis's (Israel Broussard), bed without a way to stop her death at the hands of a masked killer or the time loop she seems to be stuck in. It is similar to time loop films like Looper, Groundhog Day, and Edge of Tomorrow; Tree knows that if she can solve the mystery of who is trying to kill her, she can stop the time loop. Hilarity and bloodshed ensue.

  • The House on Sorority Row (1982)

Mark Rosman's The House on Sorority Row is the original on which the 2009 version, Sorority Row, is based. Seven sorority sisters are about to graduate in the film, but a tragic accident leaves them with a dead body. The problem doesn't get better when an unknown killer starts to stalk the sisters as they try to stay alive. The House on Sorority Row is a favorite of slasher horror fans and has a few surprises up its sleeve. Read more: The Universal Monsters Are Getting A New 4K Box Set For Halloween.

  • The Cook (2008)

The Cook is not your average sorority house slasher. Not by a long shot. It's true. Someone combined the sorority horror film with the cannibal sub-genre and devised The Cook. Directed by Gregg Simon and starring Penny Vital, Nina Fehren, and Mark Hengst, this movie gets points for pushing the sub-genre in a slightly different direction. You can decide for yourself if they are successful, but come on, a cannibal in a sorority horror movie!

  • Sorority House Massacre (1986)

Sorority House Massacre is an example of a slasher written and directed by a woman, Carol Frank. While the film wasn't a success upon release, it has been reassessed and praised for having feminist themes and rich characterizations of the characters in the movie. The film stars Angela O'Neill, Wendy Martel, and Pamela Ross, and O'Neill's Beth is a strong final girl you can sympathize with. She might be traumatized, but Beth will still fight. Those are the ingredients of a decisive final girl.

  • The Sleeper (2012)

The Sleeper is directed by Justin Russell and stars Ali Ferda, Paul Moon, and Eric Sarich. Even more critical for eagle-eyed horror fanatics, Joe Bob Briggs, aka John Bloom, has a role in the movie as "Dr. Briggs." Yes, it's got Joe Bob in it. In the film, a killer called The Sleeper naturally has white eyes without pupils. His hobbies are giggling maniacally, watching the women of Alpha Gamma Theta as they sleep, and escorting people out of their lives with hammers. What more could you ask for?

  • The Initiation (1984)

The Initiation stars Daphne Zuniga, Vera Miles, and Clu Gulager, so you know it makes this list on the cast alone. But there's more to this sorority horror movie than just that. Four college students, including Zuniga's Kelly, are ready to face their chosen sorority's hazing ritual that will take place at a department store. However, no one knows what really happened during a traumatic time in Kelly's childhood, and as her friends are murdered by an unknown killer, Kelly and her remaining friends struggle to survive and solve the mystery.
