Tiny tech terror and FANGORIA cover girl M3GAN not only has a sequel on the way, but her universe is set to expand even more with an upcoming Blumhouse spin-off entitled SOULM8TE set to hit theaters on Friday, Jan 2, 2026
Written and directed by Kate Dolan (You Are Not My Mother) from an original script draft by Rafael Jordan (Salvage Marines), SOULM8TE is being described as a “1990s erotic thriller”, with a story by James Wan, Ingrid Bisu and Jordan.
Per Deadline, here’s an official plot synopsis:
In SOULM8TE, a man acquires an Artificially Intelligent android to cope with the loss of his recently deceased wife. In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, he inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate.
Deadline also tell us that Wan and Jason Blum will produce SOULM8TE, and Michael Clear and Judson Scott, of Wan’s Atomic Monster banner, will executive produce, along with Bisu.
Dolan, whose fantastically creepy You Are Not My Mother is currently streaming on Netflix, had this to say of her upcoming project:
“Fundamentally, I view this film as an exploration of relationships and loneliness […] Despite technological advances, there are enduring human truths we cannot escape, and I am looking forward to delving into those depths.”
Wan, who is no stranger to expanding successful horror universes, added:
“SOULM8TE is a thrilling and seductive addition to the M3GAN universe. We’re excited to partner with Kate to bring this story to life with her unique cinematic vision and point of view.”
M3GAN was a box office hit, taking $181 million worldwide despite a dreaded January release date, so it’s really no surprise to see her racking up sequels and spin-offs left right and centre. Long may M3GAN reign!
We’ll bring you more on SOULM8TE as we get it.
