British folk horror Starve Acre, from writer/director Daniel Kokotajlo, gets an eerie new trailer and poster today ahead of its theatrical and on demand release on July 26.

Starring Morfydd Clark (Saint Maud) and Matt Smith (Doctor Who, Last Night in Soho), Starve Acre is based on an award-winning novel of the same name by Andrew Michael Hurley. A plot synopsis reads:

When their son starts acting strangely, a couple unwittingly allow dark and sinister forces into their home, awakening a long-dormant ancient evil rooted deep in the countryside.

Producing Starve Acre are Tessa Ross (Ex Machina), Juliette Howell (The Iron Claw), Derrin Schlesinger (Four Lions) and Emma Duffy (Censor).

Since its world premiere at BFI London Film Festival, Starve Acre has been racking up rave reviews, and quickly acquired UK and US distribution from BFI Distribution and Brainstorm Media respectively.

Today’s trailer has all the trappings of a great folk horror; screeching violins, creepy kids, a sinister looking farm animal and a whole host of glorious overhead nature shots.

Take a look for yourself, and see you in the fields on July 26…
