The Babysitter (2017)
The Babysitter has a significant advantage because it stars horror fan favorite Samara Weaving. Directed by McG, it is about a 12-year-old boy who is shocked to find out that his beautiful and friendly babysitter is a diabolic cultist. It also stars Judah Lewis, who is currently burning up the screen in Suitable Flesh, Hana Mae Lee, Robbie Amell, and Bella Thorne. It's got lots of blood and quite a few kills since it is a devilish slasher. Read more: Exclusive: The Team Behind Lovecraft Shocker Suitable Flesh Spill Their Guts.
Scooby-Doo (2002)
Is it yoinks or jinkies? That's your personal choice, but it's always spooky fun to revisit Scooby Doo. Is it an apocalyptic zombie massacre? No, it's more of a gentler and funnier fright, but sometimes you have to take time off from hardcore horrors. This is a great movie when you want to relax with scary things. It stars Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, Linda Cardellini, and Rowan Atkinson, all beautifully cast. Raja Gosnell directed the film with none other than James Gunn on scripting duties. It Prequel Series Welcome to Derry Floats Into 2025.
Scream 4 (2011)
Scream 4 brings us back to slashers with all of the franchise's terrifying twists and turns. It is the last film made by the filmmakers Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson together. The film's reception was good at the time, but in the intervening ten years, fans' appreciation for this entry has only improved, with certain characters singled out as new favorites and the film bringing Sydney back to Woodsboro. David Arquette, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Anthony Anderson, Alison Brie, Adam Brody, and Rory Culkin fill out a fantastic cast for this tough but canny meta-horror film.
Scrooge (1970)
You might be thinking, Scrooge? How is that a horror movie? Well, it is the story of a curmudgeonly and selfish man who is visited by three ghosts in one night, and they literally scare him into becoming a better person. It's supernatural! So, yes, Scrooge is a horror movie, even if it is also a musical, and it's just good for your soul. It stars Albert Finney, Alec Guinness, Edith Evans, and Kenneth More. Shutter Island (2010)
What could be better than to have a master of cinema make a horror movie? Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Emily Mortimer, Patricia Clarkson, and Max von Sydow. Is U.S. Marshal Edward "Teddy" Daniels on the right track to find a killer, or what is really happening? Is life just a dream? The War of the Worlds (1953)
Producer George Pal's adaptation of H.G. Welles' The War of the Worlds starts off in black and white and then daringly turns into color, so don't be fooled by the first few minutes of the film. Directed by Byron Haskin and scripted by Barrรฉ Lyndon, it stars Gene Barry and Ann Robinson and is a template for many horror films of its type afterward. It concerns an invasion of Earth by Martians that takes place in Southern California.
