Mark your calendars for May 15, fang fans, because the good folks of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema are partnering up with Full Moon Features to present the limited theatrical premiere of the latest instalment in the venerable Subspecies film franchise: Subspecies V: Bloodrise.

The latest from director Ted Nicolaou is a prequel entry into the five film franchise, telling the origin story of the immortal bloodsucker Radu who will once again be played by series regular Anders Hove. Original series star Denice Duff will also return in a ‘surprising’ role. The full synopsis reads as follows:

Subspecies V: Bloodrise follows the descent of Radu from a noble warrior of the Church to a depraved, blood-hungry creature of the night. Stolen by crusaders on the night of his birth from his demon mother and vampire father, Radu grows up with no knowledge of his monstrous bloodline. Trained and exploited by a brotherhood of mystic monks to slay all enemies of the church, fate brings him back one night to his father’s castle, armed with the monster-slaying Sword of Laertes, to destroy the vampire Vladislas and reclaim a holy relic, the Bloodstone.

Bloodrise – which is being described as a “sensual, violent and operative exploration of evil” – was filmed in and around historical Serbian castles and ruins, so you just know it’s going to bring all the Gothic goodness.

Robert Saucedo, Alamo Drafthouse programmer expressed his excitement for bringing Bloodrise to bloodthirsty audiences across 20+ screens:

โ€œItโ€™s a real honor to be able to present a theatrical screening of this new Full Moon Features film […] Horror hounds have a real love of Charles Band, Full Moon and the Subspecies series. Iโ€™m very excited that we will help give fans the chance to see the newest entry in the franchise on the big screen, where it deserves to be seen.โ€

26 Alamo Drafthouse locations will be host to the Bloodrise premiere as part of the companyโ€™s fabled Graveyard Shift series. The special Graveyard Shift presentation will include an exclusive introduction and pre-recorded post-screening Q&A with members of the cast and director Nicolaou.
