Joe Lynch’s Suitable Flesh is one of our most highly anticipated horror films of 2023. How could it not be? A brand-new H.P. Lovecraft adaptation starring Barbara Crampton, Heather Graham, Bruce Davison and Jonah Ray? One which, by most accounts, deftly balances its gleeful gruesomeness with no small amount of throwback-to-the-’80s/’90s horniness? With Joe Lynch at the helm? What’s not to be excited about?
Suitable Flesh has enjoyed a handful of successful film fest screenings (it currently stands at a crisp 94% on Rotten Tomatoes) and will soon have another one in Austin, TX at this year’s Fantastic Fest, but when will the non-film-festival-going audiences of the world get to experience it? According to a new report over at Bloody Disgusting: very soon, indeed!
Says Bloody:
“Suitable Flesh is bringing Lovecraftian madness to theaters and VOD on October 27, 2023, and the film will later be hitting Shudder for exclusive streaming in January 2024.”
Hell yes! Just in time for Halloween! For those who haven’t been keeping up with Suitable Flesh as it’s worked its way through production, here’s an official plot synopsis:
“Psychiatrist Elizabeth Derby becomes obsessed with helping a young patient who’s suffering from extreme personality disorder. However, it soon leads her into occult danger as she tries to escape from a horrific fate.”
Here’s the film’s teaser trailer, should you want a taste of the goods:
We’re very excited to catch Suitable Flesh at Fantastic Fest towards the end of September, but we’re just as excited to know that everyone else will get a chance to see Lynch’s latest shortly thereafter. Stay tuned for more on Suitable Flesh as further updates become available (we figure a full, official trailer for the film will be along any day now)! In the meantime, perhaps we should all revisit Stuart Gordon’s From Beyond and Re-Animator to prep?
