With all the excitement in the air about Fede Álvarez’s forthcoming Alien movie (the production of which recently celebrated “Alien Day” with this snazzy set photo), you may have forgotten that FX also has an Alien TV series in the works, from Legion creator Noah Hawley. Been a while since we heard anything on that one, but over the weekend The Hollywood Reporter broke an interesting bit of casting news.
Says THR:
“Pistol and Don’t Worry Darling actress Sydney Chandler has become the first person cast in the series from Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley. Plot details are being kept under wraps and no character information has been provided other than that Chandler will play one of the leads.”
Yes, we have no idea who Sydney Chandler (most recently seen in last year’s Don’t Worry, Darling) will be playing in Hawley’s series, much less what the series will be about. THR says the show is “not a reboot of the beloved movies but rather an extension and reinvention of the franchise,” one that will feature all-new characters. In other words: don’t waste any time trying to guess which character Chandler’s character will be related to.
We do, however, know that Noah Hawley’s Alien series will take place on Earth, roughly 70 years in the future. That timeline will raise all sorts of questions for Alien die-hards, but from what we can gather Hawley’s series will be very unlike any Alien film that’s come before. Curiouser and curiouser!
Nothing further to report on FX’s Alien series at this time, but with casting underway we imagine that there’ll be more to share in the weeks ahead. Stay tuned for those updates as they roll in, folks!
