Japanese genre cinema icon Takashi Miike is back with his 547th feature (ok, slight exaggeration but seriously the guy’s a workhorse), the fantastically-titled Lumberjack the Monster and the good folks over at Bloody Disgusting have today brought a predictably bonkers trailer to our attention.

Lumberjack the Monster is an adaptation of the novel Kaibutsu no Kikoriย byย Mayusuke Kurai, and follows:

โ€œAkira Ninomiya is a remorseless lawyer who doesnโ€™t hesitate to eliminate anyone who stands in his way. One night he is brutally attacked by an unknown assailant wearing a monster mask. Although he miraculously survives the assault, Ninomiya becomes fixated on finding the attacker and getting revenge. Meanwhile, a series of gruesome murders occur where the victims are found with their brains removed from their bodies. While police conduct an intensive investigation, Ninomiya seeks revenge against the assaulter. Who will uncover the truth first?!โ€

Hiroyoshi Koiwaiย (Blade of the Immortal,ย Bleach) wrote the screenplay, while Kazuya Kamenashi,ย Nanao,ย Riho Yoshioka,ย Shota Sometani, andย Shido Nakamura allย star.

As expected from the man behind Audition and Ichi the Killer, Lumberjack the Monster looks to be a veritable bloodbath of insanity and brutality, with Miike himself assuring that “I want you to enjoy the violence from the bottom of your heart.”

Miike’s previous offering, Connect, aired on Disney+ (yes, really) last year.

Japanese genre fans can catch Lumberjack the Monster in theaters onย December 1, although sadly there is no international release information yet available. Rest assured, that if Lumberjack the Monster does hit screens in the West, we’ll be first in line (and you should be too!)
