Like many of you, we’re big fans of filmmaker Josh Ruben (Scare Me, Werewolves Within) here at FANGORIA HQ. We are also big fans of Josh Ruben when he is in actor mode (A Wounded Fawn, Blood Relatives), or when he stops by our offices to deliver a “special little treat” (homemade scones). In short, we’re fans of whatever the guy does, and today we’re excited to be bringing you news on his next feature film project, Green Bank.

The film, according to Variety, is a “sci-fi horror” project that will star Tatiana Maslany (Disney+’s She-Hulk) and Jasmin Savoy Brown (Scream). Here’s how they’re describing it:

“Written by Aaron Horwitz (โ€œThe Cleansing Hourโ€), โ€œGreen Bankโ€ takes place in a real American town where wifi, cell service and all other radio transmissions are heavily forbidden. The film follows infant sleep-trainer Sloan (Brown), who realizes that the parents of the child sheโ€™s caring for are much more than the clueless yuppies they seem to be.”

Well, that’s an intriguing premise! Why are cell signals and radio transmissions disallowed in this town? How are these people getting their DoorDash? Just what are these possibly-not-so-clueless yuppies up to? Much to consider. Much to unpack.

Anyway, we reached out to Ruben for comment on today’s casting news, and he replied with the following:

โ€œTatiana and Jasmin arenโ€™t just brilliant actors โ€” theyโ€™re artists. Risk takers. Theyโ€™re down to PLAY. Thatโ€™s whatโ€™s gonna make this movie as fun and chilling as it deserves to be.โ€

For those wondering if Green Bank will offer the same horror-comedy blend of Ruben’s past features, well, a further quote he provided to Variety seems to confirm as much:

โ€œIn a marketplace where original, horror-thrillers slay at the box office, we need no further proof that audiences want to have fun at the movies again. Thatโ€™s the magic word. Fun. Horror is the bulletproof genre, and Green Bank has the full package โ€” itโ€™s smart, scary and wickedly funny.โ€

We’re very excited for Maslany, Brown, Ruben, and indeed the entire Green Bank team, and look forward to learning more about the film as it works its way through production. Stay tuned for updates on that front as they roll in, gang!
