When you think about the Saw film series, created by James Wan and Leigh Whannell, you think of gory traps that torment their victims built by Jigsaw, aka John Kramer (Tobin Bell) or his accomplices. Kramer's stated purpose is to remind people that life is worth living. To celebrate Tobin Bell's birthday, here is a list of the least lethal traps in the Saw franchise. Here's the proof so we can say that occasionally, even Jigsaw shows some mercy. He is fair and does have a moral code.

  • Saw (2004)

The death of Detective Steven Sing (Ken Leung) in Saw was one of the easier deaths in the series. Think about it: he was hit in the head with a quadruple shotgun blast. He likely never knew what hit him. While other Jigsaw victims spend time screaming and thinking about the death inching toward them, BOOM and Sing was just gone. On the whole, it's not a bad way to go in Saw-land.

Adam Stanheight, played by Leigh Whannell, is also one of the series's creators and Saw's co-writer. He's part of the central game or trap in the film, and he is chained to a bathtub in the unpleasant Bathroom Trap with only Dr. Lawrence Gordon for company. After being shot and left by Gordon, who just sawed his foot off to escape, Adam is left to die in the bathroom by Jigsaw, the body on the floor the whole time. It couldn't have been fun to die alone in the dark, but at least he wasn't drowned in pig guts.

Bobby Dagen (Sean Patrick Flannery) gets one of the easiest-to-escape traps in the series and survives. What happens after that is an escalating series of horrors, but he does make it through the Metal Casket unscathed. The cage-like trap is suspended over a bunch of nasty-looking knives, but the cage's bottom falls out, and it is relatively easy for Dagen to use it to swing to safety.

Agent Strahm (Scott Patterson) is on the trail of the Jigsaw killer and runs afoul of Detective Mark Hoffman, one of the late Jigsaw's apprentices. He is drugged and put into the Water Cube trap, where Hoffman expects him to die. Not so! Strahm cleverly gives himself an emergency tracheotomy with a pen in his pocket and survives this admittedly scary trap.

The "Bucket Room" trap is where the stakes are relatively low, and everyone survives. Jigsaw even rescues one of the people in the room, Logan Nelson (Matt Passmore), when he makes an error that results in Logan not waking up soon enough to hear the trap's instructions. While the people are dragged toward power saws, even the lightest wound and the smallest amount of blood disables them.

Sidney (Olunike Adeliyi) and her abusive boyfriend Alex (Ish Morris) are suspended above a room filled with lawnmowers upside down and running. The couple are holding on for dear life to spiky metal levers. The trap is simple; the first person to drop onto the lawnmowers ends the game. Alex has no problem trying to knock Sidney into the whirling blades, so she finally reacts, and after slapping him, he falls. This is her salvation and is one of the least difficult traps to escape from in the series.

Okay, in this trap, 10 Pints of Sacrifice, there is quite a lot of blood. There are precisely ten pints of it, but the two people subjected to it, Brit Stevenson (Julie Benz) and Mallick Scott (Greg Bryk), pass the test and survive. While they learn the other lesson that Jigsaw meant for them to realize too late, they are intended to work together, even the sawing of their arms and the heavy blood loss doesn't kill them, and they recover.

Dr. Lawrence Gordon seemed like a goner at the end of the original Saw, but that's not how it ended. Gordon wisely cauterized his wound on a steam pipe and was later found by Jigsaw. Jigsaw helped him and accepted Gordon as one of his accomplices. Not only did he survive, he lived through the rest of the series, and became a trusted member of Jigsaw's team.

Hear me out. Usually, the Reverse Bear Trap is considered one of the most hideous traps, but in the original Saw, Amanda Young passed the test. Now granted, the experience was less than great for Donnie Greco, who held the key inside his guts. However, Greco was heavily sedated and likely wasn't conscious enough to know what was happening or didn't feel much while Amanda did what she had to do.

  • Saw II (2005)

The Needle Pit is another trap usually high on the lists that rate the most gruesome traps in the franchise. But it is one of the only traps where even though both participants failed, no one immediately died. Granted, Amanda Young was already one of Jigsaw's apprentices, and Xavier Chavez (Franky G) pushed her into the pit, but while the scene is highly nerve-racking, the pain, blood, and injury quotient are all low.
