Last week we learned that Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3 would be moving forward with a “much bigger budget,” a bit of news that indicated a certain pulling-out-all-the-stops mentality for the next installment in this highly popular horror franchise. And why wouldn’t they? Terrifier 2 earned $15M in theaters off the back of its $250K production budget, and one of the joys of the franchise is watching how Leone and company top themselves each time out.
Today, Variety’s got a brand-new interview with the director wherein he echoes that sentiment (indeed, Leone claims that figuring out how to top himself sometimes keeps him up at night). If we were asked for advice on how to accomplish that goal – and we weren’t, to be clear – we might recommend taking this sequel into the third dimension. That’s right: we’re pitching Terrifier 3D. Think about it.
Anyway, Variety’s interview with Leone is well worth reading, and comes with an added bonus: the confirmation that Terrifier 3 will be getting a wide release in North American theaters, to be followed by an exclusive debut on SCREAMBOX:
“Cineverse Corp. announced that it has secured North American rights to slasher sequel Terrifier 3, from series writer and director Damien Leone and producer Phil Falcone. The film is scheduled to have a wide theatrical release next year in North America, followed by its exclusive debut on Cineverseโs streaming service Screambox.”
Exciting stuff! And, hey, with the film not expected to arrive until sometime next year, there’s still plenty of time to figure out how to shoot this sucker in 3D. Sure, sure, you could got the post-conversion route, but we all know how that turns out.
Nothing further to report on Terrifier 3(D?) at this time, but do stay tuned for further updates as they roll in.
