Do you like the blood-spilling brand of horror provided by Leatherface but also enjoy lo-fi music? Then boy, do the folks behind The Texas Chain Saw Massacre video game have just the thing for you! Inspired no doubt by the legendary Lofi Hip Hop Radio YouTube channel (and other similarly chill music channels on YouTube), the folks at Gun Media have launched LoFi Leatherface – Beats for the Whole Family. Have a look/listen for yourself.
The video features an animation of Leatherface himself hacking up some meat in the kitchen. As for where the meat came from? The fewer questions asked on that front, the better. Other family members occasionally walk by the window while chill beats play, like Fickle Game by RenBoz and Elsei. Watching one of the great, violent horror icons do his thing against such relaxing tunes is pretty fascinating. It’s also a pretty brilliant, low-cost marketing tactic for the game.
Taking a similar approach to Friday the 13th: The Game and Evil Dead: The Game, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will be a kill or be killed, multiplayer experience firmly rooted in the world of director Tobe Hooper’s seminal horror classic. Pre-orders for the game were recently made available, and, very thankfully, it comes with a base price tag of $39.99, far less than most AAA games these days. An official description of the game reads as follows:
โTake on the role of one of the notorious Slaughter family, or their victims, in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, a third-person asymmetrical horror experience based on the groundbreaking and iconic 1974 horror film. As a victim you must use your wits and stealth to stay out of the Family’s reach and find the tools you need to lead to your eventual freedom. Slaughter Family players must seek out, track down, and stop their guests from escaping. Players of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre can finally find out if they have what it takes to survive.โ
The game’s timing is pretty perfect as Friday the 13th: The Game is getting ready to be taken offline. This has a pretty good shot at filling the void left behind by that game’s absence once the servers go offline. In the meantime, you can chill out to some sweet beats provided by Leatherface.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre arrives on August 18 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One and PC.
