All good things must come to an end, even if those things will probably come back around again in some way, shape (pun intended!), or form later on down the road. Case in point, filming has officially wrapped on Halloween Ends, the planned conclusion to the current trilogy in the horror franchise centered on Michael Myers and Laurie Strode. The news was confirmed by producer Ryan Turek, who shared the following set photo with a heartfelt message to commemorate the occasion.
Very little is currently known about the upcoming sequel, only that it will provide a definitive end to Michael’s journey, with Jamie Lee Curtis once again returning as Laurie Strode. That having been said, someone could always step in again to reinvent the series in some new way, as is almost always the case with big franchises, especially in horror. But this film will attempt to provide some conclusion to the story, which is not something we’re often afforded in these franchises. Makeup artist Christopher Nelson also shared a little wrap post in honor of the trilogy coming to a close.
Curtis previously revealed that she had, for her part, wrapped filming not too long ago. But Nelson wasn’t the only one reflecting, as James Jude Courtney, who has primarily handled Michael Myers duties in the new trilogy, also shared his thoughts as well as a behind-the-scenes photo as a means of saying goodbye to Haddonfield.
This journey kicked off back in 2018 with the release of Halloween, a movie that ignored every previous sequel in the franchise and served as a direct sequel to John Carpenter’s stone-cold 1978 classic. This freed director David Gordon Green up to tell the story he wanted to tell without being anchored to any pre-existing storylines which, quite frankly, had gotten a bit out of hand for anyone wanting to pick up the ball and run with it. The decision proved to be one that paid off handsomely for Blumhouse and Universal Pictures.
Halloween took in a bloody good $255 million at the global box office, a record for a slasher film, paving the way for a pair of sequels. Last year’s Halloween Kills, despite also being available to stream on Peacock on the same day as its theatrical release, also did incredibly well, taking in $130 million. With this being billed as the final showdown between Michael and Laurie, one imagines a similarly huge turnout this fall.
Green is back in the director’s chair for the sequel, with Andi Matichak and Kyle Richards also set to return as well. Plot details remain under wraps, but there will be a four-year time jump between Kills and Ends.
Halloween Ends is set to hit theaters on October 14, 2022.
