This afternoon, during the 2023 Playstation Showcase, Remedy Games unveiled the first full trailer for Alan Wake 2, the long-awaited (like, looong-awaited) sequel to the studio’s 2010 original. Oh, sure – we knew it was coming. A teaser trailer arrived about a year ago. But the full Alan Wake 2 trailer offers a helluva lot more, and is likely to work even the most casual Alan Wake fan into a full-on lather.
Let’s take a look.
This looks awesome. Everything here looks of a piece with the first Alan Wake (y’know, with 13 years’ worth of tech advances and graphical enhancements), but everything also looks a big bigger. All kinds of new settings, enemies (what the hell was that thing that burst through the roof?), characters, scares. We had high hopes for Alan Wake 2, but after seeing this we are, in fact, losing our damn minds.
For those who never played the original, Alan Wake told the story of its titular author. Afflicted with writer’s block, Alan and his wife to the town of Bright Falls, Washington, where things get sinister, spooky, and flat-out bizarre in very short order. Playing Alan Wake felt like playing through a Stephen King novel you’ve never read (a feeling bolstered by the game’s episodic structure). From the looks of things, our ol’ pal Alan’s still got some writing – and surviving – to do.
Alan Wake 2 will arrive on October 17th for PC and PlayStation 5. Rest assured we’ll be bringing you every last update we can on this game between now and when it hits stores. Stay tuned, folks!
