The Boogeyman director Rob Savage sat down with us to discuss breaking unspoken codes of conduct, the scientific method of calculating how much screen time to give the creature, David Dastmalchian’s wounded but wild performance, and happy accidents. At the last moment, Savage and Co had to cut Sawyer’s original weapon of choice, which just so happened to be a lightsaber. With Vivien Lyra Blair playing Princess Leia in Obi-Wan Kenobi and Sophie Thatcher’s recent role in The Book of Boba Fett, Savage explains why a janky lightsaber ripoff simply wouldn’t have worked, and his desire to take a swing at his version of Stephen King’s The Langoliers. Take a look at our full conversation below.
Based on the Stephen King short story of the same name, The Boogeyman focuses on sisters Sadie and Sawyer Harper as they are still reeling from the recent death of their mother, while not getting much support from their father, Will, a therapist who’s dealing with his own intense pain. When a desperate patient unexpectedly shows up at their house seeking help, he leaves behind a terrifying supernatural entity that preys on families and feeds on the suffering of its victims. The Boogeyman hits theaters June 2.
