Today brings us fresh news on The Boogeyman, the forthcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s short story of the same name, directed by Rob Savage: as pointed out by the good folks over at Bloody Disgusting, the film has officially been given a PG-13 rating.
What for? I’m glad you asked:
“Terror, violent content, teen drug use, and some strong language.”
Nothing outta the ordinary here: if you’re gonna adapt “The Boogeyman” (from King’s Night Shift collection), you’re gonna have some terror, violence, and strong language in there. Don’t recall any instances of “teen drug use” in that story, but then again, it’s clear that the source material’s been expanded a bit for this particular take on the tale. Just check out this plot synopsis:
“Still reeling from the tragic death of their mother, a teenage girl and her little brother find themselves plagued by a sadistic presence in their house and struggle to get their grieving father to pay attention before it’s too late.”
One reason we’re particularly excited for this one? The Boogeyman‘s incredible cast, which includes Yellowjackets‘ Sophie Thatcher, Birds of Prey‘s Chris Messina, and – last, but certainly not least – the iconic David Dastmalchian (The Suicide Squad, Twin Peaks: The Return, last year’s FANGORIA Chainsaw Awards ceremony). That’s a strong lineup, and we’re very curious to find out what Savage and company have come up with here.
Nothing further to report on The Boogeyman at this time, but hopefully we should have a release date and a trailer to share with everyone in the not-too-distant future. Stay tuned for that, and in the meantime … maybe check your closets, make sure nothing’s hiding in there. It couldn’t hurt!
