THE CABIN IN THE WOODS (2011)

Director of The Cabin in the Woods Drew Goddard is about to step into the animation scene, with Deadline reporting today that FX have ordered a pilot for monster-hunter comedy The Trenches.

If successful, the show will follow ‘a modern family of monster hunters’ and will join Danny DeVito-starring series Little Demon as another of FX’s original animated comedies released earlier this year. 20th Television Animation will produce The Trenches, and Goddard will exec produce alongside Sarah Esberg for Goddard Textiles.

While he may be new to the world of animation, Goddard is no stranger to the monster game, having written 2008’s found-footage modern kaiju classic Cloverfield, as well as 2013’s action-zombie flick World War Z (he’s even told us directly that he’s in love with monsters – us too, Drew). And given that The Cabin in the Woods regularly pops up on Best Horror-Comedy lists for its witty and meta take on the horror genre, there’s no doubt that The Trenches will be a laugh riot.

At this point, no further details are known about The Trenches, so while you wait, why not revisit Cabin‘s iconic monster breakout scene.
