Dead by Daylight first arrived in 2016 and, in the eight years since the very popular, much-beloved horror game was released, much has changed. The game regularly gets new content, from adding beloved franchises such as Alien to constantly refreshing both the Killers and Survivors, Behavior Interactive does a lot to help it all feel fresh. But now, the franchise is expanding well beyond the core game, with not one but three brand new games coming to enhance the scope of the DbD universe.ย
From a new roguelike game that you can play right now to a mysterious shooter that fans will have a hand in shaping, Behavior has much planned. The company unveiled much of what they have in store in the recent Dead by Daylight 8th-anniversary livestream event. Here, weโre going to go over what Behavior shared with us about each of the three new games in the franchise – What the Fog, The Casting of Frank Stone and the mysterious Project T – at a recent press preview to give you a better sense of whatโs coming down the pipeline. Letโs dive in.ย
What the Fog
First up, we have a new two-person roguelight game called What the Fog, which you can play right now. The game was surprise-released during the public livestream, with the above trailer offering a glimpse of the surprisingly lighthearted action. Dead by Daylight tends to be pretty brutal, so this is a new direction for the franchise, to be certain.ย
In the game, youโve been sucked into a cursed board game and now you and a friend will need to work together to survive. Run, jump, dash, and shoot your way through swarms of angry monsters while teaming up to earn Bloodpoints, repair Generators and unlock exit doors to escape. The levels become increasingly challenging with nonstop action promised. Behavior says that combat and platforming are โeasy to grasp.โ The game also includes the ability to stay in the action even after you die until your teammate revives you, which means no one gets stuck on the sidelines.ย
โIt’s the perfect game to play with your friends, and itโs also our anniversary gift to our fans,โ Said Mathieu Cote, head of partnerships for Dead by Daylight.ย
What the Fog is available now and the first 2 million copies can be obtained for free by signing into or creating a Behaviour Account and following the steps on the site. If you donโt get it for free, it will be available for purchase on Steam for $4.99.ย
The Casting of Frank Stoneย
Even though the game was announced some time ago, we finally have a much better idea of what the long-promised single-player game set within the universe of Dead by Daylight is going to look like. During the livestream, a new gameplay trailer for The Casting of Frank Stone was released. Promising a branching narrative, the game focuses on a group of young horror fans trying to create an independent movie. Along the way, they unwittingly unlock horrors beyond comprehension. The synopsis for the game reads as follows:ย
โIn the small town of Cedar Hills, Oregon, the legacy of sadistic serial killer Frank Stone cuts deep, leaving scars across families, generations, and the very fabric of reality itself. Players join a group of young friends as they attempt to unravel a mystery of cosmic proportions where every decision shapes the story and impacts the fate of the characters within it.โย
โThe world of The Entity is like a book with infinite pages,โ said Dave Richard, Senior Creative Director at Behaviour Interactive. โWith a completely different setting, different gameplay, and more, The Casting of Frank Stone is a way for us to fill those pages in and tell a Dead by Daylight story in a way weโve never been able to before.โ
โIn true Supermassive Games fashion, we’re creating a heart pounding, immersive experience for all players,โ said Traci Tufte, Executive Producer at Supermassive Games. โThis is a story that aims to deliver the unexpected at every turn, and it all begins in a small town with a group of young filmmakers shooting their independent horror movie, Murder Mill.โ
The Casting of Frank Stone is available to Wishlist on Steam, the Epic Games Store, the PlayStation Store and the Microsoft Storeย for the Xbox Series X|S.ย
Project T remains mysterious (but now less so)
Mary Olson of Midwinter Entertainment was on hand to finally deliver some information on the previously announced yet ever-mysterious PvE shooter game. Described as a session-based, action/horror shooter, it is codenamed Project T, with the above featurette pulling back the curtain on the development process, revealing concept art, early gameplay and much more.ย
In Project T, players take the role of Trespassers, described as rough-and-tumble characters who have been whisked away from their realities and trapped within The Entityโs Realm, which should be familiar to fans of DbD. Once there, in an ever-changing region called The Backwater, they discover they must work together if theyโre to have any chance of survival.
The Backwater is home to horrific monstrosities known as The Thrall. They come in many forms and have different deadly abilities. Their origins and nature are unknown but players will have to battle them with every weapon at their disposal.
Players will be able to influence the development of the game directly through the Project T Insider Program. It is now open for anyone who wishes to lend their ideas to help shape the project’s future. Players who wish to sign up for the program can do so by clicking here.ย
