Is Dune a horror property?

No. No, it is not.

But does the forthcoming Dune: Part Two feature killer creature design (and maybe, god willing, a return of that weird-ass man-spider thing from the first Dune movie)? Yes, it does, and since David Lynch’s Dune scored itself a FANGORIA cover waaay back in the day, we’re gonna go ahead and cover today’s Dune: Part Two trailer drop. If you’re not excited for this one, we dunno what to tell you.

Here we go…

As its title would imply, Dune: Part Two is the sequel to 2021’s Dune, and boy does it look great. The sense of scale here is incredible, as are the glimpses we get at Paul Atreides (Timothรฉe Chalamet) hitching a ride on a giant sandworm. Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Enemy) returns to direct, Hans Zimmer returns to score, and cinematographer Greig Fraser is back behind the camera. That’s on top of a small army of returning cast members and new characters, including Austin Butler’s sure-to-be-fearsom Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen.

Here’s an official plot synopsis, for your records:

“Paul Atreides unites with Chani and the Fremen while seeking revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the universe, he must prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”

That … probably won’t make much sense if you haven’t seen Villeneuve’s first film (or read the Frank Herbert novel upon which this duology was based), so perhaps you should take this opportunity to get all caught up before the new one hits theaters. If nothing else, you’re gonna want to see that man-spider, which still haunts my dreams a full two years later.

Dune: Part Two hits theaters on November 3rd. We’re already in line.
