Yesterday, we got our very first look at the poster for Shudder’s forthcoming Blood Relatives, the vampire-road trip-horror-comedy directed by Dead Girl star (and frequent Rian Johnson collaborator) Noah Segan, and today the folks behind the project have unleashed the film’s very first trailer.
Let’s give it a look!
Respect to whoever put this trailer together: what you see here is definitely what you’re gonna get in November, from the shaggy road trip hijinks to the extended fangs, from the multiple cameos (keep your eyes peeled for the always-excellent Doug Benson and Werewolves Within director Josh Ruben) to the growing pains of raising one’s very own vampire teenager (Victoria Moroles, turning in a great performance in what could turn out to be a breakout role), from that sweet-ass car to the truly unexpected amount of Yiddish Segan worked into the script. This movie is a helluva lot of fun, and that fun comes through loud and clear in the footage above.
Here’s an official plot synopsis:
“A vampire’s loner lifestyle is thrown into disarray when a teenager shows up claiming to be his daughter, and she’s got the fangs to prove it.”
It’s always intriguing to see an actor climb into a director’s chair for the first time, but it’s never guaranteed that any performer will prove to have the same chops behind the camera as they do onscreen. I am therefore pleased to report that Segan has more than acquitted himself here, and that Blood Relatives really is unlike any other vampire movie you’ve ever seen. Y’all are gonna enjoy this one!
So, when can you see it? Shudder will drop Blood Relatives just in time for Thanksgiving, on November 22nd (Note: You can also look for an exclusive interview with Segan in the next issue of FANGORIA Magazine, which’ll be hitting mailboxes sooner rather than later; get your copy here). Beyond that? Stay tuned.
