By now, you’ve likely heard that legendary director Henry Selick (The Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline) has joined forces with Jordan Peele (director of the recent Nope) and Keegan-Michael Key (Schmigadoon!, the dearly-departed Key & Peele) for a brand-new stop-motion animated film by the name of Wendell & Wild.
But have you seen the film’s just-released teaser trailer?
Holy Jesus and sweet baby Jesus, this looks stunning! No idea how Selick’s films just keep getting better-looking, but for our money there’s no one in the business who does it like him. That he’s back with a gorgeous new film (just in time for Halloween, no less!) and brought Key & Peele along with him is almost more than we deserve.
Here’s an official plot synopsis:
From the delightfully wicked minds of Henry Selick and Jordan Peele, comes Wendell & Wild, an animated tale about scheming demon brothers Wendell (Keegan-Michael Key) and Wild (Peele) โ who enlist the aid of 13-year-old Kat Elliot โ a tough teen with a load of guilt โ to summon them to the Land of the Living. But what Kat demands in return leads to a brilliantly bizarre and comedic adventure like no other, an animated fantasy that defies the law of life and death, all told through the handmade artistry of stop motion.
So, when can you see it? Very soon! Wendell & Wild will get a limited theatrical release on Oct. 21st, followed by its debut on Netflix one week later, on the 28th. This one has absolutely been added to our “What to Watch This Halloween” list. Until then, stay tuned for any further updates or trailers as they roll in!
