The first game in the wildly successful Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise arrived all the way back in 2014, which means hardcore fans have spent nearly a decade waiting to see series creator Scott Cawthon’s vision brought to the big screen. And thanks to the good folks at Blumhouse and director Emma Tammi, they will soon be getting their wish.
Today brings us the first full Five Nights at Freddy’s trailer, which greatly expands upon the footage we saw in the teaser trailer that arrived back in May.
Here, take a look…
In case any of the above was unclear, here’s an official plot synopsis:
“The film follows a troubled security guard as he begins working at Freddy Fazbearโs Pizza. While spending his first night on the job, he realizes the night shift at Freddyโs wonโt be so easy to make it through.
Sure, the plot itself might sound a little threadbare (threadbear?), but what’s going on here appears a bit more involved than what I remember from the original game, and … well, this should probably go without saying, but this is a movie about a guy being terrorized by what basically amounts to the murderous version of Chuck E. Cheese’s Rock-afire Explosion. What more do you need?
Well, get this: Five Nights at Freddy’s stars Josh Hutcherson, the great Matthew Lillard, Elizabeth Lail, Kat Conner Sterling, Piper Rubio, and – believe it or not! – Mary Stuart Masterson. Director Emma Tammi (who helmed 2018’s highly effective The Wind) also co-write the script alongside Cawthon and Seth Cuddeback, and no less than Jim Henson’s Creature Shop created the animatronics you’ll see in the movie. If “giant animatronic animals in a decommissioned pizza parlor, stalking and sometimes killing people” ain’t enough for you, there’s plenty more going on under the hood.
Stay tuned for more on Five Nights at Freddy’s as we draw ever closer to its October 27th release date. There’s surely plenty more to come between now and then.
