Justin Simien’s The Haunted Mansion, based on the Disney theme park ride of the same name, hits theaters on July 28th, which means we have entered the final stages of this film’s marketing campaign. We’ve seen posters, teasers, TV spots, and at least one other full trailer, but today brings us another one … and it may be the best yet.
How so? More ghosts, fresh jokes (many of which land!), and Danny DeVito interacting with Jamie Lee Curtis’ disembodied head. That’s how you cut a damn trailer, people!
Take a look:
If you’re interested in The Haunted Mansion (horror fans with kids oughtta take note; this looks like a very solid “gateway horror” offering), you’re probably already aware that this isn’t Disney’s first time turning the ride into a movie. Two decades ago, in 2003, the studio released the identically-titled The Haunted Mansion starring Eddie Murphy. That film didn’t fare too well with critics, to put it mildly, and wasn’t the Pirates of the Caribbean-sized hit the Mouse House had been hoping for. The good news? This version looks markedly better!
Simien’s version (which stars LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Chase W. Dillon, Daniel Levy, with Jamie Lee Curtis as the iconic Madame Leota and Jared Leto as The Hatbox Ghost) tells the tale of “a woman and her son who enlist a motley crew of so-called spiritual experts to help rid their home of supernatural squatters.” Everyone here appears to be having a good time, and we’re curious to see how it all comes together!
Nothing further to report on The Haunted Mansion at this time, but do stay tuned for any further updates between now and the film’s July 28th arrival in theaters.
