THE TANK (2023)

We love a good creature feature around these parts, and as far as subgenres go, creatures tend to fall to the wayside just a tad in favor of slashers and the supernatural. So when we get word of a solid creature feature coming down the pipeline, we’re gonna scream it from the rooftops. The Tank centers on a young family and transports us to their newly inherited remote (and long abandoned) coastal property in Oregon circa the 1970s. Property inheritance sounds like a dream, regardless of how decrepit that property may be, but everything comes with a cost.

The family comes to find there’s a reason this property has been left for nature to reclaim when they awaken a horde of ferocious, deadly creatures beneath their new home. If you’re into practical FX, you’re in for a treat. Academy Award-winning special effects supervisor and creative director Richard Taylor and his team at Peter Jacksonโ€™s VFX studio Weta Workshop created the creature effects for this one.ย Taylor is an old-school Jackson collaborator, yes, he even worked on Brain Dead, kicking ass for the lord. This time, Taylor and Co are unleashing ferocious beasts on an unsuspecting family, and it’s a whole lot of fun. We have a sneak peek for you below.

Yowza! We’re getting a bit of Jurassic Park vibes with a touch of Jaws as the unseen beast chomps away below the waist and just out of frame. We didn’t give you a peek at the creatures just yet, but we have an interview with The Tank director Scott Walker and FX wizard Richard Taylor coming soon, along with some fun BTS snaps, so keep your eyes peeled for that. The film opens in select theaters on April 21 and digitally on April 25.
