With Halloween almost upon us, it’s just about time to start worrying about Christmas. Travel arrangements. Buying the perfect gift. Not getting murdered by your own Christmas tree. Y’know, the issues we all tend to face during the year’s biggest holiday.
What’s that? Your Christmas tree has never tried to murder you? Well, let me introduce you to an upcoming movie by the name of The Killing Tree…
This, as you can see, is the trailer for Rhys Frake-Waterfield’s The Killing Tree, and it certainly appears to live up to its name! Uncork’d Entertainment will be dropping this one on a not-so-unsuspecting populace on digital next month, and it looks like just the delightfully absurd blast of Christmas-themed horror this holiday season deserves.
Here’s an official plot synopsis:
“On Christmas Eve, a scorn widow casts an ancient spell to resurrect her executed husband. However, when the spell goes wrong, the husband is brought back as an Evil Christmas Tree. Hell-bent on getting revenge on the one who caused his execution, the body count keeps rising as the Tree hunts her down. Can anyone stop this killer Christmas tree before he gets to his target?”
Given the form the killer takes in The Killing Tree, one cannot help but be reminded of Jason Eisener’s classic 2008 short film, Treevenge, but it seems that Frake-Waterfield (who’s also the director on the forthcoming Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey) has something a bit more elaborate in mind here, something that’d probably play very well alongside 1997’s Jack Frost. Consider our interest piqued!
The Killing Tree hits digital on November 1st, just in time for the holidays.
