Hot on the heels of his latest Netflix hit The Fall of the House of Usher, Mike Flanagan’s upcoming Stephen King adaptation The Life of Chuck adds some exciting fresh blood to a cast that already includes Tom Hiddleston (Loki, Crimson Peak) and Star Wars legend Mark Hamill, as Deadline have today announced that Chiwetel Ejiofor (Rob Peace), Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3) and Jacob Tremblay (The Toxic Avenger) will be along for the ride.

If you’re not familiar with The Life of Chuck, let’s remind you of the plot synopsis real quick:

Based on the short story from Kingโ€™s 2020 anthologyย If It Bleeds,ย The Life of Chuck is three separate stories linked to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse, beginning with his death from a brain tumor at 39 and ending with his childhood in a supposedly haunted house.

Deadline lets us know that โ€œAccording to the production, the genre project will draw tonally fromย Stand By Me,ย The Shawshank Redemptionย andย The Green Mile”, so while The Life of Chuck won’t necessarily be classes as a horror, we have no doubt that it’ll be pretty damn dark at times.

Deadline also lets us know that production on The Life of Chuck kicked off in Alabama earlier this month under an interim agreement, and that Flanagan will also write the script and produce through Intrepid Pictures.

Gillan, Tremblay and Hamill are already part of the Flanaverse (starring in 2013’s Oculus, Doctor Sleep and The Fall of the House of Usher respectively), but The Life of Chuck will mark Hiddleston and Ejiofor’s first time entering the expansive cast of regulars that have helped Flanagan solidify his legacy as a modern horror icon.

Needless to say, we will have all the updates on The Life of Chuck as and when we get them!
