We first learned of Joel Schumacher’s late-’80s vampire classic The Lost Boys being turned into a live musical in December. The production boasts an impressive and very unexpected creative team. Producers for the upcoming fanged musical include The Conjuring star Patrick Wilson, Million Dollar Baby‘s Marcus Chait, and The Punisher‘s James Carpinello (Rock of Ages).
We’ve got horror folks and Tony Award winners on board, with direction by Tony Award winner Michael Arden (Parade), book by David Hornsby (Itโs Always Sunny in Philadelphia writer/EP) and Chris Hoch, plus music and lyrics by The Rescues (Kyler England, AG, Gabriel Mann), with Tony Award nominee Ethan Popp (Tina, The Tina Turner Musical) serving as Music Supervisor and General Management. Now that sounds like an excellent melting pot of talent bringing this to life!
Before Buffy The Vampire Slayer, True Blood, and Twilight, we had The Lost Boys โ paving the way for teenage fanged angst. This teenage vampire movie is near and dear to our hearts, and we’re curious to see it come to life on the stage. Take a peek at the first teaser below.
Horror musicals have enjoyed a good amount of success in recent years, with the Beetlejuice musical earning eight Tony nominations in 2019. With an invitation-only industry preview coming to New York February 23, we’re hoping the public debut is not far behind! Next month’s preview will include Frozenโs Caissie Levy, Dear Evan Hansenโs Nathan Levy and & Julietโs Lorna Courtney in the cast.
