Genre film festivals are everywhere these days (thank God), rolling out in major cities from coast to coast and filled with precisely the sort of programming we all love to see. You’ve got Fantastic Fest in Austin, TX. Beyond Fest, out in Los Angeles. Telluride has its annual Horror Show, while the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival just gets better and better every year. If you’re a genre nerd, these are the festivals you wanna be making a pilgrimage to each year.
But those ain’t the only games in town – there’s also the Overlook Film Festival, one of the absolute best of this particular bunch. The Overlook Film Festival’s famous for both its nomadic nature (it began in Estes Park, CO, at the infamous Stanley Hotel, took a detour up to Oregon’s Timberline Lodge, and then ultimately landed in New Orleans, LA) and its penchant for pairing immersive ARG games with fun live events, awesome guests, and – last, but certainly not least – an entire slate of horror movies.
So, here’s the news, following that very elaborate preamble: The Overlook Film Festival will return in 2023! The whole thing kicks off in New Orleans on March 30th, lasts through April 2nd, and will once again feature all of the fun stuff we just told you about in the previous paragraph. Obviously, we’re a bit too far out from the date to have any real idea which films might be screening there this year, but if previous years’ lineups are anything to go by, next year’s Overlook Film Festival will be yet another homerun.
If you’re interested in attending (and you should be!) or submitting your feature/short film for programming consideration, head on over to the Overlook Film Festival’s official page to learn more! We’ll be there … will you?
