This year’s New York Comic Con is in full swing, and last night, some fans in attendance were given a look at the very first clip from Renny Harlin’s The Strangers: Chapter 1, the first in a new trilogy of films based on Bryan Bertino’s 2008 original. From the looks of things, Harlin is keeping the basics firmly in place.
Let’s take a look!
As you can see, this is Riverdale‘s Madelaine Petsch filling the role previously played by Liv Tyler. And as before, Petsch’s character has ended up at a remote cabin (an AirBnB, this time around) where a trio of masked killers are about to spend the evening making life very difficult for Petsch and her boyfriend, played – but not seen here, obviously – by Froy Guttierez.
What happens next? Well, that’s where things get interesting. Apparently the plan here is for The Strangers: Chapter 1 to be a quasi-remake (reboot?) of Bertino’s film, with the next two films in the trilogy taking the franchise straight into unknown territory (in other words, they’re not also remaking 2018’s The Strangers: Prey at Night). It’s an interesting approach, and we’re curious to see how things shake out at the end of this new trilogy’s first film.
No release date has been set for The Stangers: Chapter 1, but rest assured that we’re keeping a close eye on this one and will keep you informed as further updates roll in. Stay tuned for those and, in the meantime, be careful who you answer the door for.
