Today brings us the first full trailer for Ishana Night Shyamalan’s The Watchers, based on the book of the same name by A.M. Shine. Much like the teaser trailer we checked out a while back, it’s overflowing with dread, shot through with moments of intensity, and seems to offer up quite the puzzle for viewers to put together when the film opens on June 14th. Yes, Ishana Night Shyamalan is getting into the family business, and so far it looks like that was a very good idea, indeed.

We’ll get to the trailer in just a moment, but first – an official synopsis:

“From producer M. Night Shyamalan comes The Watchers, written for the screen and directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan and based on the novel by A.M. Shine. The film follows Mina, a 28-year-old artist, who gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland. When Mina finds shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers who are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night. You canโ€™t see them, but they see everything.”

Got all that? Good. Now let’s check out that trailer…

Hot damn! We, of course, currently have no idea whether Ishana Night Shyamalan will deliver a film that’s as twisty, weighty, and compulsively watchable as some of the films her father’s made, but this trailer certainly indicates she’s on the right track. There’s some great imagery here, to say nothing of the mystery-to-be-solved at the center of this thing. Consider us sold, Ishana Night Shyamalan!

The Watchers stars Dakota Fanning (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Georgina Campbell (Barbarian), Oliver Finnegan (Creeped Out) and Olwen Fouere (The Northman). Produced by M. Night Shyamalan, Ashwin Rajan and Nimitt Mankad and executive produced by Jo Homewood and Stephen Dembitzer, it is Ishana Night Shyamalan’s feature debut (she also scripted, for the record). If that alone doesn’t have you curious, we don’t know what to tell you.

The Watchers will hit theaters on June 14th. Stay tuned for further updates as they roll in, and please do your best to avoid spoilers between now and then – the book that inspired it is already out, and you know someone out there who read it is just dying to tell you what they already know!
