Will we see a new take on the iconic Lord Summerisle?

In the years since its release, Robin Hardy’s The Wicker Man has more than acquitted itself as one of the best folk-horror films ever made, and this September the good folks at Studiocanal are honoring the film’s 50th anniversary by putting a 4K version of the film back into theaters and releasing a 5-disc (!!!) 4K Collector’s Edition set.

For those who’ve never seen The Wicker Man, here’s a synopsis:

“When a young girl mysteriously disappears, Police Sergeant Howie (Edward Woodward) travels to a remote Scottish island to investigate. But this pastoral community, led by the strange Lord Summerisle (Christopher Lee) is not what it seems as the devoutly religious detective soon uncovers a secret society of wanton lust and pagan blasphemy. Can Howie now stop the cults ultimate sacrifice before he himself comes face to face with the horror of The Wicker Man?”

Now, further information about theatrical screenings of The Wicker Man will have to wait until we’re closer to September, but we can tell you plenty about that 5-disc set. Here’s a breakdown of the discs/special features, via our friends at Bloody Disgusting:

Indeed, you can pre-order your copy of the set now via Diabolik’s official page. We recommend doing so even if it’s a blind buy; The Wicker Man is one of our favorite horror films here at FANGORIA, and we can’t wait to see how great it looks when this set arrives.

Stay tuned for more on The Wicker Man‘s 4K theatrical screenings as further updates become available.
