Here’s an exciting bit of news: according to Deadline, Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski, the dynamic screenwriting duo behind Super Dark Times (excellent), The Night House (also excellent), and David Bruckner’s forthcoming Hellraiser (TBD, but probably excellent) have lined up their next project, and it sounds right up our alley.
The film’s an adaptation of Madison Lawson’s forthcoming novel, The Registration, which has quite the plot synopsis attached (here it is, via Barnes & Noble):
Imagine itโs legal to commit one murder in your lifetime? If you Register the victim and accomplish the kill within fourteen days. So when Lynell Mize stands in line to Register the man who abused her as a child, sheโs shocked to hear a stranger Register her to be killed. Why would anyone who doesnโt know her squander his one legal murder on her? Desperate to survive the next two weeks, she must find out who wants to kill herโฆ and why.
Easier said than done as Lynell soon discovers that multiple strangers have used their Registration on her. Along the way, she reunites with her estranged husband who is determined to dig up a past Lynell prefers to keep buried. With only days left to live, Lynell is determined to uncover the truth and survive a destiny not of her choosing.
Oh, this definitely sounds like something Collins and Piotrowski will have a ball with. These guys have really acquitted themselves as sharp, clever screenwriters with a talent for pitch-black material that tends to yield unforgettable horror movies and thrillers, so we’re very excited to see what they do with this one.
Also attached to the film: Sydney Sweeney (The White Lotus, Euphoria) and Brad Fuller (Ouija, the Purge franchise), both of whom are producing; Sweeney herself is attached to star. Probably gonna be a while before we hear anything further on this one, but that’s fine: as long as Collins and Piotrowski are out there writing unsettling shit, we’re happy to be patient.
