Blumhouse, the studio behind such hits as The Black Phone and Halloween Ends, has put together quite an impressive cast for one of its upcoming horror flicks, They Listen. While this one may not be on everyoneโs radar just yet, the ensemble suggests that perhaps it should be. And the latest to join in on the fun is Havana Rose Liu, as per a report from Deadline. She joins a list of names that is, in a word, stacked.
No word on who Liu will play in the movie, and plot details are nonexistent so far as we can tell at this point. The actress broke out in last yearโs criminally underseen thriller No Exit, which was released on Hulu. Some of her other credits include The Sky is Everywhere, as well as the upcoming Bottoms, which is due to premiere at SXSW in Austin, Texas next week. Chris Weitz (The Twilight Saga: New Moon, About a Boy) is in the directorโs chair for this one. Weitz has, admittedly, had a pretty wild career, with writing credits on everything from Antz to Disneyโs live-action Cinderella and even Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. He hasnโt done too much genre work in the past, but thereโs no time like the present.
As for that stacked ensemble we were talking about, itโs a compelling list of names. John Cho (Searching), Katherine Waterston (Alien: Covenant), Greg Hill (South of Heaven), Riki Lindhome (Knives Out), Lukita Maxwell (Shrinking), Keith Carradine (Fear the Walking Dead) and Ben Youcef (Mayans M.C.) also star. Itโs just a shame Sony and Blumhouse are keeping us in the dark regarding what this group will be getting up to.
Jason Blum, Andrew Miano and Weitz are on board as producers, with Bea Sequeira, Dan Balgoyen, Britta Rowings and Paul Davis serving as executive producers. Meanwhile, Blumhouse is already off to a good start in 2023 as M3GAN is one of the biggest hits of the year so far, having earned $172 million to date at the box office against a comparatively tiny $12 million budget. A sequel is, naturally, already in the works.
They Listen is set to hit theaters on August 25.
