Horror fans (particularly horror gaming fans) of a certain age may have fond memories of the Alone in the Dark franchise. The original title, released all the way back in 1992, was a big hit, generating multiple sequels, a few ill-advised reboots, and a couple of wildly forgettable movies. Sure, the franchise’s track record is spotty, but those first few games? Helluva lot of fun to play.

Now, a new Alone in the Dark remake (or maybe it’s just a reboot?) is on the way via THQ Nordic. Information on this one’s been somewhat hard to come by up until now, but this Thursday that all changes when THQ Nordic will release a “Spotlight” showcase that pulls back the curtain on Alone in the Dark‘s latest at-bat.

YouTube video

According to Bloody Disgusting, THQ Nordic’s Alone in the Dark Spotlight will be streamable via THQ’s YouTube and Twitch pages on May 25th at 5PM Pacific/8PM Eastern. Here’s how they’re describing the game:

“A love letter to the ground-breaking original, Alone in the Dark lets you experience a haunting story through the eyes of one of the two protagonists: play as either Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood in this re-imagination of the classic survival horror game where Psychological Horror meets Southern Gothic. Explore your environments, fight monsters, solve puzzles, and uncover the uneasy truth of Derceto Manor.

Deep in the 1920s south, Emily Hartwoodโ€™s uncle has gone missing. Together with private investigator Edward Carnby, she embarks on a journey to Derceto Manor, a home for the mentally ill where something is lurking. Youโ€™ll encounter strange residents, nightmarish realms, dangerous monsters, and ultimately uncover the plot of rising evil. At the intersection of reality, mystery, and insanity, an adventure awaits that will change your core beliefs. Who can you trust, what will you believe, and what will you do next?”

We’re very excited to get a closer look at Alone in the Dark and will absolutely be tuning in when this Spotlight streams on Thursday. Stay tuned for whatever news we can glean from THQ Nordic’s showcase.
