After a world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, Lao-based director Mattie Do’s (Chanthaly, Dearest Sister) The Long Walk is coming to theaters and on-demand. Do has been recognized for her breakthrough work as Laoโs first and only woman filmmaker, and the only filmmaker of the country to work in the horror and fantastic genres. When a young boy finds a mysterious woman seemingly near-death on the side of the road, he offers his help. Locals tell stories about the young boy seen walking along the road with a woman by his side, only for the woman to vanish as they get closer.
The Long Walk follows an old scavenger living alone on the fringes of a near-future society as he exploits a ghostly companion’s time-hopping abilities to prevent his mother’s suffering after a terminal illness. Described as “a grim near-future sci-fi, and mystery with life and death stakes spanning across decades.”ย ย Take a look at the official trailer below.
