Today marks the 68th anniversary of the very first Godzilla film’s arrival in theaters. Godzilla Day, they’re calling it. Poke around social media, and you’ll see new Godzilla posters, toys and collectibles rubbing shoulders with Godzilla franchise rankings and Godzilla fan art and all kinds of other Godzilla-related stuff. If you’re a big-time Godzilla nerd like many of us are here at FANGORIA, well, this is a very special day, indeed.

And what would a Godzilla Day be without a big announcement concerning Toho’s next Godzilla film?

Behold:

That, my fellow Godzilla fans, is not just the announcement of a new Toho Godzilla movie, but an announcement and a release date! November 3rd of next year, to be precise! Some of you have already put together that this is also the date of next year’s Godzilla Day, which means that next year’s celebration will be quite the party.

This Godzilla film will be directed by Takashi Yamazaki, who worked on the VFX for Shin Godzilla, but beyond its existence and that credit we don’t know much else. No title, no cast, nary a whisper of what the new Godzilla will be about. We just know we’re excited, and look forward to whatever Yamazaki and company come up with in time for next year. Do save the date!
