Vampires rule the list of top horror movies streaming this week. Okay, it’s a vampire ballerina this time, but what a wonderful vampire ballerina Abigail is. She is a killer dancer in more ways than one.  Dangerous vamps are back, and we couldn’t be happier.

Other new additions to the top ten include In A Violent Nature and Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Cure. Check out the fill list of top horror movies streaming this week below.

  • Abigail (2024) - Streaming on Peacock

The filmmaking collective Radio Silence, perhaps best known for the revival of the Scream franchise with a new cast and the horror hit Ready or Not, has captured horror fans' hearts with this new tale of a team of kidnappers who grab the wrong little girl for ransom.

With a scary movie fan's dream cast of Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, Will Catlett, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud, Alisha Weir, and Giancarlo Esposito, co-directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett bring the audience a hyper bloody horror comedy that delivers.

Abigail (2024) is now streaming on Peacock.

  • Pearl (2022) - Streaming on Prime Video

Mia Goth, David Corenswet, Tandi Wright, Matthew Sunderland, Emma Jenkins-Purro, and Alistair Sewell star in what turns out to be a period slasher film that's also a musical. Audiences are continuing to scream yes so much to this film that Pearl is number two in this week's top ten.

Is Pearl psychological horror, too? It sure is. Along with the gore-geous technicolor cinematography of Eliot Rockett, much of the film explores the inner life of Pearl, the killer from Ti West's previous film in the series, X. It is what many fans clamor for, namely a film that delves into the backstory of the killer. The story of Pearl is so strong that it holds the viewer enraptured, or frightened, or maybe a little of both.

Pearl is streaming on Prime, Fubo, and Hoopla.

  • In a Violent Nature (2022) - Streaming on AMC+

With the news that director Chris Nash's film In a Violent Nature will be getting a sequel, the announcement that a second film is in development came late last week; the ambient slasher continues to be very popular on streaming services. It's quite a new direction in slasher film, and that's something to be excited about.

Ry Barrett, Andrea Pavlovic, Cameron Love, Reece Presley, Charlotte Creaghan, Lea Rose Sebastianis, and Lauren Taylor star in the film, and their work grounds this intensely gory film. Special effects department head Steven Kostanski and director Chris Nash deserve their props for making audiences scream in horror this year.

In a Violent Nature is now streaming on AMC+.

  • Late Night With the Devil (2023) - Streaming on Shudder

People are definitely still scared of Satan in 2024, and the continued popularity of Late Night With the Devil attests to that fact. Even though the film is a period piece that one could conceptually think of as in the distant past, fans are definitely responding to its tongue-in-cheek thrills.

Australian brothers Colin and Cameron Cairnes co-directed and wrote the film and made the great decision to cast David Dastmalchian in the leading role. The film also boasts Laura Gordon, Ian Bliss, Fayssal Bazzi, Ingrid Torelli, Rhys Auteri, and Georgina Haig, who play their roles with gusto that translates well on the screen.

Late Night With the Devil is streaming on Shudder and AMC+.

  • Bone Tomahawk (2015) - Streaming on Hulu

This western horror film is about a small town of settlers versus a clan of cannibals that have kidnapped people from their homes, and the film has one of the most shocking scenes of gore in recent memory.

The film stars the legendary Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, Matthew Fox, Lili Simmons, Richard Jenkins, Evan Jonigkeit, the beloved Sid Haig, and David Arquette. It is quite possible that interest in the film was renewed once the film came to Netflix, and author Stephen King mentioned t it in a July 24 tweet.

Bone Tomahawk is now streaming on Hulu and Netflix.

  • A Quiet Place (2018) - Streaming on Paramount+

A Quiet Place: Day One is still in theatres but will be released on VOD on Tuesday, July 30. The film has done very well so far and looks to continue that trend on VOD and streaming. Of course, having a popular film in theaters can definitely get people watching the other films in the series, as we have seen with the A Quiet Place franchise.

Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Cade Woodward, Leon Russom, John Krasinski, and Noah Jupe star in the film, trying to stay as silent as possible. Krasinski was busy on this set since he also directed the film and co-wrote it.

A Quiet Place is streaming on Paramount+ and Fubo.

  • Arcadian (2024) - Streaming on Shudder

Director Benjamin Brewer's feature film Arcadian remains in the top ten this week. After a short theatrical release, the film is doing really well on streaming, so it seems to be finding a larger audience. Monster movies are a favorite of genre fans.

When a film has Nicolas Cage playing one of the characters, it obviously has an advantage, but Jaeden Martell, Maxwell Jenkins, and Sadie Soverall add a lot to the film as well. Filmed in Ireland, the film has a rich look, and cinematography adds depth to this post-apocalyptic monster tale.

Arcadian is now streaming on Shudder.

  • Cure (1997) - Streaming on The Criterion Channel

Written and directed by respected Japanese filmmaker Kiyoshi Kurosawa, who is not related to the beloved master filmmaker Akira Kurosawa, Cure is a cult psychological J-horror film that is so revered that it is part of the Criterion Collection and is streaming on Criterion's service. Kiyoshi also directed Pulse.

It is possible that Cure has been launched into the top ten because fans and critics have drawn parallels between Osgood Perkins's horror phenomenon, Longlegs, and Kurosawa's film, Cure.

In the film, a frustrated detective deals with the case of several gruesome murders committed by people who have no recollection of what they've done. It stars Kōji Yakusho, Masato Hagiwara, Tsuyoshi Ujiki, and Anna Nakagawa.

Cure is streaming on The Criterion Channel.

  • Talk to Me (2022) - Streaming on Hoopla

Talk to Me is an Australian chiller that still packs a punch two years later. It succeeded Hereditary as A24's highest-grossing horror film and continues to capture an audience on streaming services.

Sophie Wilde, Alexandra Jensen, Joe Bird, Otis Dhanji, Miranda Otto, and Zoe Terakes star in the film with charming and emotionally involving performances. In August of 2023, co-directors Danny and Michael Philippou confirmed that a sequel, Talk 2 Me, was in development.

Talk to Me is streaming on Hoopla and Fubo.

  • The First Omen (2024) - Streaming on Hulu

Genre fans have been hoping for exactly what Arkasha Stevenson's The First Omen delivered: a new Omen franchise film that delivered the goods with the birth of the Antichrist. It's kind of a big deal. They waited and have finally been rewarded with a film is wildly ambitious and successful in its aims.

Set in a golden-tinged Rome during the 70s, it is also a very well-done period film. The madness and terror of the series' beginnings finally returned with an excellent cast: Nell Tiger Free, Tawfeek Barhom, Sônia Braga, Ralph Ineson, and Bill Nighy. Religion, dark conspiracies, and the terror of pregnancy and childbirth take control. The film does reference the original film but also has a magnificent homage to Andrzej Żuławski's Possession.

The First Omen is streaming on Hulu.
