Funny people making horror movies is not a new trend, but it’s a trend that’s never felt more pronounced than it does right now. The Office‘s John Krasinski directed two A Quite Place movies. Jordan Peele revealed himself to be one of the most exciting voices in modern horror with a string of hits. Former Whitest Kids U Know star Zach Cregger hit paydirt with last year’s Barbarian. Hell, even Bill Hader’s been flirting with the idea of making his own horror movie.
While we wait to see if that pans out, we’ve got Joe Lo Truglio’s Outpost to look forward to. Comedy fans will recognize Lo Truglio as one of the founding members of The State, a standout in the Wet Hot American Summer franchise, and of course his excellent run on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. With the soon-to-be-released Outpost, Lo Truglio has officially become part of the “funny people making horror movies” club, and we’re excited to see what he’s come up with.
First up, here’s an official synopsis:
“After a violent assault, a woman asks her best friend for help escaping an abusive ex. Sheโs given a job as a fire lookout in the mountains of northern Idaho, hoping the peaceful solitude will heal her trauma. But the PTSD and isolation have other plans, and itโs suddenly a fight to save herself and the town.”
Aaaand here’s that trailer:
Outpost stars Beth Dover, Ato Essandoh, the great Dylan Baker, Becky Ann Baker, Dallas Roberts, TaโRea Campbell,ย Tim Neff, and D.R. Anderson. It will hit select theaters and VOD later this month. From the looks of the trailer above, it’s got the potential to be a nerve-shredding, paranoid little affair, and – speaking as someone who recently moved up to the same remote region of Idaho wherein this movie takes place – really seems to capture the creeping isolation one feels living in this part of the country.
As mentioned above, Outpost will arrive in select theaters and VOD on May 19th.
