Roar Uthaug’s Norwegian kaiju adventure Troll has become Netflix’s most popular non-English film, just two weeks after its premiere on December 1.

According to Variety, Troll has racked up a gargantuan 128 million hours of views, and is in the Top 10 in 93 countries including its native Norway, the U.S., the U.K., France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Brazil and Mexico. The film has dethroned Peter Thorwarthโ€™s Blood Red Sky (interestingly, another horror movie) for the top spot of most watched non-English film on the streaming giant.

For those who haven’t yet contributed to those 128 million hours of watch time, Troll‘s plot synopsis reads as follows:

Deep inside the mountain of Dovre, Norway, something gigantic awakens after being trapped for a thousand years. Destroying everything in its path, the creature is fast approaching the capital of Norway, with city-dwellers struggling to stop something they thought existed only in Norwegian folklore.

The film stars Ine Marie Wilmann (Homesick), Kim Falck, Mads Pettersen and Gard B. Eidsvold. Director Uthaug’s previous features include 2018’s Tomb Raider and disaster film The Wave.

In an interview with What’s On Netflix, Troll producer Kristian Strand Sinkerud revealed that ‘we have ambitions to make a sequel and perhaps two sequels, but it all depends on how the audience are responding to Troll.’

It seems safe to say that 128 million hours counts as a positive response, so will we be getting a sequel to this folklorish fantasy soon? And, more importantly, will it be called Troll 2?
