In his stand-up special New in Town, John Mulaney has a very funny bit about reaching adulthood and realizing that quicksand (much like big, red sticks of dynamite or anvils falling out of the sky) would not represent the clear and present danger that many cartoons had led him to expect. One cannot help but wonder if screenwriter Matt Pitts, who scripted Shudder’s forthcoming horror film Quicksand, has heard that bit. If he hasn’t, we think he’d enjoy it!

This is the first trailer for Quicksand, which our friends over at Bloody Disgusting debuted earlier this morning. Directed by Andrรฉs Beltrรกn, the film seems to capture all the worst elements from our quicksand-based nightmares. Out in the middle of nowhere? Check. Little hope for rescue? Check. Snakes hovering around the pit of quicksand in which our heroes are trapped? CHECK. We’re not sure how these two will extricate themselves from that pit, but we’ll happily watch them try!

Here’s an official plot synopsis, also via BD:

“Inย Quicksand, an American couple, on the brink of divorce, travel to Colombia for a work conference. While on a hike through the rainforest, a storm causes them to become trapped in a pit of quicksand. Unable to move, it becomes a struggle for survival as they battle the elements of the jungle and a venomous snake, in order to escape.”

Quicksand, which stars Carolina Gaitร n andย Allan Hawco, will debut on both Shudder and AMC+ on July 14th, which is just around the corner. We plan to get trapped in it immediately upon its arrival. If you plan on joining us, please bring some rope. Maybe also a ladder. And some snacks.
