BED REST (2022)

The folks at STX had planned to bring Bed Rest to a theater near you sometime this year. But things changed along the way, and that is no longer the plan. Instead, dear reader, you will have the chance to watch the new horror film starring Melissa Barrera (Scream) from the comfort of home on Tubi beginning next week. So, how might one determine if this is something worth taking a look at? Well, you can start by checking out the trailer, which we’ve got right here. Have a look.

As we can see, there is an awful lot going on here. Barrera stars as a mom who is ordered to be on bed rest for the entirety of her pregnancy. Naturally, this leads to a great deal of boredom and restlessness. And, eventually, ghostly happenings. But is it all in her mind? Is it real? The trailer leaves things pretty vague in that regard, leaving it up to us to discover upon actually viewing the movie. It does feature some pretty excellent retro voiceover, though. For a little more context, here is the movie’s official synopsis:

“After years of struggling to start a family, Julie Rivers (Barrera) is pregnant again and moving into a new home with her husband as they embrace a fresh start. Upon being ordered to mandatory bed rest, Julie begins to slowly unravel as she suffers through the monotony and anxiety of her new constraints. Soon, terrifying ghostly experiences in the home begin to close in on Julie, stirring up her past demons and causing others to question her mental stability. Trapped and forced to face her past, and the supernatural, Julie fights to protect herself and her unborn baby.”

Lori Evans Taylor, who is penning the upcoming Final Destination 6, is making her feature directorial debut with Bed Rest. William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein serve as producers alongside Taylor and Barrera. Tubi’s Chief Content Officer Adam Lewinson had this to say about the film:

“We’re very excited to be the exclusive home for this gripping psychological thriller that has you wondering until the very end if what we see is to be believed. Melissa is absolutely captivating in Bed Rest and we can’t wait for audiences to see her incredible portrayal of this isolated character working through her grief while facing frightening supernatural elements.”

Bed Rest is set to hit Tubi on December 7.
